Speaking at a memorial forum, the Minister highlighted the Sheikh's profound influence on nearly every facet of religious work within the country. The forum served as a platform to recognize Sheikh Ismail’s lifelong dedication to spreading Islamic knowledge. Minister Shaheem shared a personal connection, revealing that he received direct guidance and support from the Sheikh during his own academic journey. Beyond his official roles, the Minister emphasized the Sheikh's enduring commitment to mentorship and spiritual growth. In a significant announcement for the academic community, Minister Shaheem revealed that the late scholar's completed tafsir (exegesis) works are currently under review and are scheduled for publication soon. These works are expected to provide invaluable insights for future generations of students and scholars. Other prominent figures, including Sheikh Abdul Latheef, Dr Mohamed Qubad, and Sheikh Mohamed Rasheed Ibrahim, contributed to the forum. They noted that Sheikh Ismail was instrumental in facilitating religious studies for Maldivians, specifically by helping over 100 students pursue higher education abroad in countries such as Pakistan. Many of these students eventually returned to the Maldives as qualified scholars, creating a lasting intellectual legacy. Sheikh Ismail Mohamed holds a distinguished place in Maldivian history as the first citizen to study at the Islamic University of Madinah, specializing in Islamic studies and teaching methodology. Over a career spanning more than 50 years, he became one of the most respected figures in the religious community. His contributions were formally recognized through the National Award of Honour for services to Islam and education, and he was the recipient of the first honorary doctorate awarded by the Islamic University of Maldives.
