World ·
The Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development has released the official guidelines for the Engineers Awards, a new initiative designed to recognize the critical role of engineering professionals in the Maldives' physical and economic development. The Ministry confirmed that the application window for the awards will open shortly.
The awards program seeks to celebrate professional excellence, innovation, and the tangible achievements of Maldivian engineers. By highlighting these contributions, the government aims to inspire the next generation of students to pursue education in engineering and attract young talent to the field.
A primary focus of the awards is the promotion of sustainable infrastructure. The Ministry intends to incentivize engineers to develop innovative, climate-resilient solutions to address the unique environmental challenges and rising sea levels facing the archipelago.
Recognition will be distributed across 10 distinct categories: Engineer of the Year, Lifetime Achievement Award, Young Engineer Award, Women in Engineering Award, Engineering Innovation, Technology, Education and Research Award, Sustainability Champion Award, Engineering Consultant/Consultancy Firm of the Year, Student Innovator Award, Community Impact Award, and Contractor of the Year.
Eligibility for the Young Engineer Award is restricted to professionals under the age of 30. For categories honoring teams and projects, nominations are open to government institutions, state-owned enterprises, private engineering firms, contractors, consultants, and academic research teams. Additionally, individuals and associations contributing to the broader engineering sector are eligible for nomination.
According to the published guidelines, all nominations must be submitted via the prescribed application form and accompanied by the necessary supporting documentation before the deadline. A dedicated seven-member committee has been appointed to evaluate the submissions and determine the winners based on the established criteria.
