MMA Launches Mandatory Digital Platform to Monitor Foreign Currency Exchange Transactions

Economy ·
The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has launched a new digital platform, dubbed the "Money Changer System," designed to record and report foreign currency trading transactions. The system was officially inaugurated by the Deputy Governor of the MMA. The authority stated that this is an important step taken to enhance the capacity to conduct transactions within the digitalization and automation of the financial sector, as well as to strengthen the trust and integrity of the financial system. The MMA also highlighted that this platform represents a significant advancement in ensuring the submission of reports that are required to be submitted legally. With this new system, all entities holding licenses for foreign currency trading will be mandated to use this system starting from the first day of next month. As a result, it will become easier to monitor the prices at which money exchanges buy and sell foreign currency, and it will also become easier to identify entities conducting transactions contrary to the official rates.
