MNAACA Plans Diploma in Corruption Investigation by 2027 to Address Investigator Shortage
Politics ·
The Maldives National Anti-Corruption Academy (MNAACA) has announced plans to launch a "Diploma in Corruption Investigation" course by 2027. The course, which is accredited by the Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA), aims to produce technically capable investigators needed to handle corruption cases in the country and to address the current shortage of human resources in this field.
MNAACA stated that the biggest obstacle in the fight against corruption in the Maldives is the lack of specially trained personnel. The new diploma course is expected to fill the technical staff vacancies currently faced by the institution.
"The biggest challenge currently facing the complete investigation of corruption cases in the Maldives is the unavailability of technically competent, trained investigators. This MQA-accredited diploma course being prepared by MNAACA is a very important step towards filling this national vacancy and building a new generation of investigators with modern skills at an international standard," said MNAACA Director General Ibrahim Thobbibu.
The diploma course will cover key areas including maintaining ethical standards in investigative work, collecting evidence under legal provisions, digital forensics, and analyzing financial transactions. It will also teach skills to detect frauds carried out through state financial systems and procurement regulations.
MNAACA operates through three main sectors: enhancing the capacity of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) employees, conducting short courses for heads of government offices and state-owned enterprises (SOEs) on identifying corruption risks, and now, the effort to build national-level investigative human resources through this new diploma course.
