MNDF Acquires Portable Hyperbaric Unit to Enhance Diving Emergency Response

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has strengthened its emergency medical capabilities with the acquisition of a portable hyperbaric transport unit. The specialized equipment, provided by Hyperbarics Europe, is designed to stabilize divers and patients suffering from decompression illness during critical transport. Chief of Defence Force Major General Ibrahim Hilmy formally received the unit at the Integrated Headquarters. During the handover, the MNDF expressed its gratitude to Hyperbarics Europe for the generous assistance, noting the vital role such technology plays in safeguarding lives within the maritime sector. A portable hyperbaric transport unit acts as a mobile pressure chamber, allowing medical teams to maintain a controlled atmospheric environment for patients. This is essential for treating decompression sickness, where rapid changes in pressure can lead to severe injury or death if not managed during evacuation. For an archipelagic nation like the Maldives, where vast maritime areas and extensive diving activities are central to both the economy and daily life, this equipment is a strategic addition.
