MNDF Prepares to Clear Bandeyrige Koshii for Redevelopment Project

Local News ·
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) announced on Wednesday that it is preparing to vacate the Bandeyrige Koshii area to begin a redevelopment project aimed at improving housing for current and future military and police personnel. The project will be carried out in two phases to minimize disruption to residents. According to MNDF, the first phase will focus on developing Bandeyrige Koshii 1. Before work begins, officials are engaging with current residents — police and military personnel and their families — to share information and address concerns. Once Bandeyrige Koshii 1 is completed, the families currently living there will be relocated to the newly built apartments. The overall project is expected to provide housing for more personnel beyond those currently residing in the area. The announcement follows a pledge by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who stated during the official ceremony marking the 134th anniversary of military service that the redevelopment work will start within the next eight months. The President noted that Bandeyrige Koshii has been neglected for decades and that his government is committed to changing that. He described the area as being of poor standard and promised that work would begin very soon. Bandeyrige Koshii currently houses military and police personnel and their families.
