MNDF Says New Pump Stations to Significantly Ease Water Drainage in Male'
Environment ·
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has stated that the installation of new pump stations will significantly ease water drainage work in the capital, Male'.
Speaking on PSM News' 'Raajje Miyadhu' program, Colonel Ahmed Faish Rashad, Principal Director of the Fire and Rescue Service, said that with the upgrading of roads and the introduction of modern pump stations, the task of draining floodwater will become much easier. He noted that such improvements are already being observed.
'The progress we see is coming from two sides. With pressure pumps that drain water faster and the changes coming with road reconstruction, our work is greatly facilitated,' Colonel Faish said.
He further stated that the government has recently provided about six pumps for drainage work, some of which will be installed in various areas of Male'. There are also plans to establish automatic pump stations in different localities.
Flooding has become a recurring problem across the Maldives due to the monsoon. The government is implementing stormwater management systems and drainage networks in Male' and several other islands. Early warning systems are also being installed.
