The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) responded swiftly to assist four households in Addu after their roofs were blown off during severe storms on December 30, 2025. The incident began late Tuesday night around 23:20 in Hithadhoo, where the roof of one house was torn off. Three more homes in the same district suffered similar damage early Wednesday morning. Thankfully, no injuries were reported. Addu City Mayor Ali Nizar confirmed that four houses were affected, and several trees were also damaged due to the storm. The situation has since been brought under control, and the affected homes have been stabilised. Addu has witnessed similar incidents in recent years, including roof collapses during heavy rains in September 2024 and November 2025, which forced residents into temporary shelters.
