MNDF Warns Vessels as Burnt Boat Parts Drift South Following Fire

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has issued a warning to vessels traveling near K. Dhoonidhoo after debris from a burnt fishing boat was found drifting in the area. The fishing boat 'Fresh from the Sea,' carrying 15 people, caught fire on Saturday at 14:55 while near Male’. The vessel subsequently sank, leaving parts of its hull and cargo floating 0.38 nautical miles northwest of Dhoonidhoo. Five people were injured in the incident and were transported to Male’ for treatment. Authorities believe the fire originated in the engine area before rapidly spreading, engulfing most of the vessel. Videos circulating on social media showed the stern engulfed in flames. MNDF has advised vessels, particularly those traveling at night, to exercise caution as the debris is expected to drift southward. The fire was brought under control by 15:39, and investigations into the cause are ongoing.
