MNU Awards Scholarships to 13 High-Achieving Students to Support Higher Education

World ·
The Maldives National University (MNU) has awarded scholarships to 13 high-achieving students, recognizing outstanding academic performance across various fields of study. The initiative is part of the university's broader effort to reduce the financial barriers facing students pursuing higher education in the Maldives. To support its student body, MNU allocates USD 97.04 million from its annual budget specifically for scholarship programs. Currently, 46 students are benefiting from these financial aid schemes, which are designed to ensure that academic merit is rewarded regardless of a student's economic background. The university utilizes three distinct scholarship categories. Tuition fee scholarships exempt students from course fees for the duration of their degree. Full scholarships provide a more comprehensive package, covering all tuition fees while providing a monthly financial allowance to support living expenses. Additionally, the university continues the Martyrs’ Award, a prestigious honor established in 1999 to commemorate the martyrs of 3 November 1988, awarded to students with the highest results in their first semester. During the recent award ceremony, four students were granted undergraduate full scholarships, while two received undergraduate tuition fee scholarships. At the postgraduate level, five students were awarded tuition fee scholarships, and two students received the Martyrs’ Award. Addressing the recipients, MNU Registrar Mohamed Laamir encouraged the scholars to maximize this opportunity. He urged them to complete their courses with excellence and eventually contribute to nation-building as exemplary graduates who can drive the country's development. Established in 1973 and granted university status in 2011, the Maldives National University remains the nation's oldest and largest higher education institution. Through its various faculties and centers, MNU continues to play a pivotal role in producing the skilled professionals necessary for the Maldives' strategic national growth.
