MNU Partners With Three Hilton Resorts to Boost Tourism Student Internships
World ·
The Maldives National University (MNU) has renewed its strategic partnership with three premier Hilton-branded resorts, ensuring a steady pipeline of practical training and employment opportunities for Maldivian students specializing in hospitality.
The agreement involves Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi, Hilton Maldives Amingiri Resort & Spa, and Conrad Maldives Rangali Island. The partnership focuses on bridging the gap between academic theory and industry practice by providing students from the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies (FHTS) with immersive internship experiences.
Under the terms of the renewed agreement, students will gain hands-on exposure across diverse operational areas, including front office management, housekeeping, food and beverage services, culinary arts, marketing, and back-of-house operations. This comprehensive approach allows students to refine their skills within a five-star luxury environment, making them more competitive in the global job market.
During the signing ceremony, FHTS Lecturer Ismail Shiaru emphasized that the collaboration, which began several years ago, is vital for student development. He noted that the ability to apply university learning in a professional setting is one of the most significant benefits of the program, allowing students to transition seamlessly from the classroom to the workforce.
Vice Chancellor Dr. Aishath Shehenaz Adam and FHTS Dean Zulaikha Reesha Rashad represented the university, while the resorts were represented by General Managers TJ Joulak (Waldorf Astoria), Mark Eletr (Hilton Amingiri), and Nick Flynn (Conrad Maldives). The resort leadership expressed their commitment to nurturing local talent and supporting the growth of Maldivian professionals within the nation's critical tourism sector.
MNU officials highlighted that the resorts have consistently recognized the high standard of graduates produced by the university. This reputation has led to a strong interest from the three properties in recruiting MNU students directly upon the completion of their studies, effectively turning internships into long-term career paths.
