Mohamed Alambar Says Millions Paid to 'Abdulla' as Rasmalé Project Faces Scrutiny

Local News ·
Mohamed Alambar, the owner of Eagle Hills, the company that was awarded a large portion of the Rasmalé development project, has stated during a meeting with top government officials and prominent businessmen that he has made payments totaling millions of dollars to an individual named 'Abdulla'. According to reliable sources who informed Raajje MV, the meeting took place during Alambar's visit to the Maldives in October. In the meeting, Alambar reportedly said, "No, I gave money to Abdulla, I gave many times." He repeatedly mentioned that he had made several payments to this person, but did not clarify who 'Abdulla' is. The meeting was attended by Attorney General Ahmed Usham, Housing Minister Dr. Abdulla Muththalib, and other senior government officials. Despite Alambar's repeated statements, the Attorney General did not comment on the matter. Businessmen present at the meeting expressed concerns about the benefits of the Rasmalé project, especially given the severe dollar shortage in the country. They suggested that at least $250 million or up to $500 million be injected into the Bank of Maldives (BML) to address the crisis. However, Alambar did not directly respond to these proposals, instead reiterating his payments to 'Abdulla'. The revelation has sparked widespread calls for an independent audit of the Rasmalé project. Many are demanding that the government reveal the details of the agreement with Eagle Hills, including the economic viability and legal validity of the deal. Economic and financial experts are urging a transparent audit conducted according to international auditing standards before the project proceeds further.
