Health ·
A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed with two foreign companies to establish a Diagnostic Centre for Oncology Services at Hulhumale Hospital.
Male City Group of Hospitals signed the MoU with Quantum Heights, a UK-based company, and Vasku Technology from India. The work to establish the center will be carried out jointly by the British and Indian companies.
Ibrahim Abdulrazzaq Halim of MCGH stated that with the establishment of this service, specialized cancer treatment in the country will be strengthened, reducing the need for patients to travel abroad. Services will be provided through a comprehensive system, from diagnosis to follow-up, with advice from a team board comprising experts from various fields. Services are expected to be available after the center is established in 2028.
Halim also said that mental health support and supportive care services to improve patients' quality of life will be provided by the center. Plans have also been made to train Maldivian doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, radiologists, and other staff with the assistance of international experts required for the center to provide services.
Some hospitals in the country currently provide cancer-related surgeries and chemotherapy services. However, radiation therapy, nuclear medicine, and important scans are not conducted domestically.
