MP Abdullatheef praises President Muizzu's focus on education and scientific generation

Politics ·
Member of Parliament for the Dhiyares constituency, Abdullatheef Mohamed, stated that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is a leader who places great importance on education and works to build a good scientific generation. Speaking while debating the amendment bill proposed by the government on the Education Bill, Abdullatheef said that Maldivians have always loved education and given priority to children's learning. However, he noted that when the start of the academic year was changed to June/July without conducting any research or consulting with scientific experts under the MDP government, parents and students faced significant hardships. Abdullatheef highlighted that since time immemorial, Maldivians would prepare extensively to begin their new academic year in January or February, starting with great enthusiasm and excitement. However, he said that changing the schedule so that classes began midway through the year disrupted this enthusiasm and reduced the attention given to education. Therefore, he stated that changing the start of the new academic year back to January or, at the latest, February through the currently proposed amendments, is a very important and positive change. Furthermore, responding to opposition parties' claims that it is unclear what is being done with the education budget, he said that many students annually achieve high scores in international level examinations due to the importance given to education. He also stated that the significance attached to education in the state budget will become clear. At the same time, highlighting that special attention has been given to children with disabilities in the proposed bill, Abdullatheef said that the thinking behind President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to make these children an integral part of society capable of contributing and playing a role is clearly revealed in this bill.
