MP Amin Faizal warns of national crisis as no Maldivian children want to become teachers

Politics ·
Member of Parliament Amin Faizal has declared that the Maldives is facing a national crisis in education, stating that no child in the country currently wants to become a teacher due to a lack of respect and love for the profession. Speaking in Parliament, Amin Faizal criticized successive governments for failing to keep the education sector free from political influence, alleging that political leaders deliberately exert control over teachers. He argued that the Education Ministry should be made into an independent institution or department to run effectively. The MP called for a specific budget allocation for education similar to the judicial sector and for health insurance packages for teachers comparable to those provided to police and military personnel. He also accused the current government of introducing citizenship as a subject with a political motive, saying it was unnecessary as nothing outside the national curriculum had been taught before. Amin Faizal warned that if the current trend continues, there will be no Maldivian teachers left to teach in the country's schools.
