MP Nazeel accuses government of wasting tax revenue and 'stealing' via Rasmalé project

Politics ·
During Tuesday's Parliament session, Member of Parliament for Hithadhoo South constituency Ibrahim Nazeel strongly criticised the government's policies while debating a bill proposing amendments to the Tax Administration Act. Nazeel alleged that despite the government increasing taxes ahead of every November budget, citizens receive no benefits. He claimed that the government prioritises wasting taxpayers' money over fulfilling the people's basic needs. Nazeel further accused the government of using tax increases to fund the Rasmalé reclamation project, which he described as an act of theft. He also said that with development projects on islands stalled and essential services unavailable, the government is profiting illegally from large projects, and described the tax hikes as a grave injustice to the people.
