MTCC Advances Key Waterfront Upgrade with Utility and Harbor Works

Opinion ·
The modernization of Boduthakurufaanu Magu's northern waterfront has entered a critical construction phase, focusing on the complete renewal of its underground water and sewerage networks. The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) is coordinating with utility providers to minimize service disruptions during this essential infrastructure upgrade. Simultaneously, preliminary work has begun on new pedestrian sidewalks and an integrated stormwater drainage system. Significant harbor expansion is also underway along a 90-meter stretch from the Henveiru Ferry Terminal to Fishermen's Park. Using sheet piling, crews are extending the harbor wall outward by three meters to accommodate a wider future road. This work represents the third stage of the broader modernization project, targeting a 700-meter section from the Izzuddin Jetty to the Henveiru Ferry Terminal. Engineers are carefully aligning the new construction with the architectural framework of the previously completed 380-meter segment toward the North Harbour. Upon full completion, the project will have renewed 610 meters of the capital's inner quay wall, marking a major step in Male's long-term urban infrastructure development.
