MTCC and UAE's NMDC Pursue Strategic Partnership for Maldivian Infrastructure Projects

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has concluded high-level talks with the UAE-based National Marine Dredging Company (NMDC) in Abu Dhabi to establish a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing infrastructure development across the archipelago. The discussions focused on creating a framework for joint project development, with a specific emphasis on dredging operations and the provision of specialized marine equipment. As the Maldives continues to expand its coastal protection and land reclamation efforts, MTCC is looking to leverage NMDC's technical expertise to streamline these critical operations. Beyond hardware and project execution, the two entities explored potential investments by NMDC into MTCC-led projects. The proposed collaboration also includes a strong focus on human capital development, with plans for technical training, knowledge sharing, and employee exchange programs to elevate the skill sets of Maldivian technicians and engineers. MTCC confirmed that a formal agreement will be signed following these deliberations, marking a transition from exploratory talks to a concrete operational partnership. The delegation from the Maldives included Ambassador Thoriq Ibrahim, MTCC Chairperson Saadha Ibrahim, and Managing Director Ahmed Saudhee. Representing the UAE side was NMDC Chief Executive Officer Niels De Bruijn, supported by a team of senior officials. This partnership aligns the local capabilities of MTCC, which manages the majority of the Maldives' dredging and construction projects, with the global experience of the NMDC Group. With five decades of experience in marine dredging across the Middle East and South Asia, NMDC is positioned to provide the scale and technical sophistication required for the Maldives' challenging maritime environment.
