The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has launched a major new construction phase to modernize the Boduthakurufaanu Magu coastal road in Malé. The work focuses on a 700-meter stretch from the Izzuddin Jetty to the Henveiru Ferry Terminal, where crews have begun demolishing old concrete structures and constructing a new quay wall. This phase marks the third component of the broader urban renewal project. According to MTCC, 610 meters of the existing quay wall will be completely rebuilt. Concurrent sheet piling work is also underway near Fishermen's Park to reinforce the cross seawall, a critical berthing area. These foundational upgrades will allow the road to be widened by approximately two to three meters. The company is following the design framework used in the first two successfully completed segments of the initiative. Once structural work is finished, the area will receive modern asphalt surfacing, a new drainage system, pedestrian pavements, and street lighting. Authorities have confirmed that Fishermen's Park itself will remain untouched during this construction phase. To date, the overarching Boduthakurufaanu Magu project has modernized a 380-meter section from Izzuddin Jetty to the North Harbour. The latest work represents a significant expansion of efforts to redefine the capital's waterfront infrastructure and improve connectivity.
