MTCC Completes First Phase of Ameenee Magu Road Rehabilitation Project

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has completed the paving of the first segment of the Ameenee Magu road rehabilitation project, marking a significant milestone in the restoration of one of Malé's critical arteries. Work on the first segment began last Saturday with the application of the initial asphalt layer. The second layer was laid yesterday and finalized this morning, ensuring the structural integrity of the road surface. According to MTCC, the final stages of this phase will focus on essential finishing touches, including professional road marking to ensure traffic safety. This specific project was awarded to MTCC in June of this year to address severe deterioration along Ameenee Magu. The rehabilitation is being executed in distinct stages; Segment 1 covers the stretch from Izzuddin Magu to the boundary of the park adjacent to Dharumavantha Hospital. With the first phase now paved, MTCC has confirmed that preparations are complete to begin work on Segment 2. This next phase will extend the rehabilitation from Izzuddin Magu toward Ghiyasuddin School, continuing the effort to modernize the city's infrastructure. Despite the visual completion of the paving, technical officials have issued a warning against premature traffic access. They emphasized that the asphalt requires a specific curing period to reach maximum durability. Opening the road too early could lead to rapid deterioration, particularly as this route is heavily utilized by buses and subject to the Maldives' intense tropical heat, both of which can compromise the quality of the newly laid asphalt.
