MTCC Completes Half of Drainage Works in Malé North Side Road Development Project

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has announced the completion of half of the drainage works under the Malé North Side Boduthakurufaanu Road Development Project. The state-owned contractor shared on social media that sheet piling is ongoing, and curbstone installation has commenced along the upgraded pedestrian lane. Additionally, new wastewater and water supply lines are being installed. The project, which began on December 9, aims to modernize the Malé city market area, including the fish market, local market, tourist market, and port. This area is known for frequent congestion due to high pedestrian and vehicle traffic. To mitigate these issues, the road is being widened by six metres and converted into a two-way street. The development seeks to improve pedestrian access, ease traffic congestion, address flooding caused by drainage issues, and enhance accessibility for residents, cargo vehicles, and vessels. The construction covers a 250-metre section from the Local Market area to the North Harbour, part of a larger 1,088-metre stretch from the Henveiru Ferry Terminal to the North Harbour. Phase one, covering 140 metres, has been completed, with phase two currently underway. MTCC expects the second phase to be completed and the road opened to the public before Ramadan.
