MTCC to Lead Coastal Protection and Infrastructure Projects in Innamaadhoo and Maarandhoo

The Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development has officially contracted the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to execute critical infrastructure development projects in Raa Innamaadhoo and Haa Alifu Maarandhoo. The agreements were formalized during a signing ceremony held today at the ministry. State Minister Ismail Hameed signed on behalf of the government, while MTCC Deputy Managing Director Mohamed Jamsheed represented the contracting company. In Raa Innamaadhoo, the project focuses on enhancing the island's swimming area and implementing robust beach protection measures. MTCC is tasked with constructing a 100-metre rock-boulder groyne and a 200-metre rock-boulder breakwater. To restore the shoreline, the company will also carry out 4,100 cubic metres of beach nourishment. This project is slated for completion within a 180-day timeframe. Simultaneously, the development in Haa Alifu Maarandhoo will focus on land reclamation and coastal stabilization. The scope of work includes backfilling 2.28 hectares of land and constructing 939 metres of rock-boulder revetment. Additionally, MTCC will install a 312-metre rock-boulder low-crest breakwater and a 180-metre groyne to protect the island from erosion. These contracts are part of a broader national effort to fortify island coasts against rising sea levels and environmental degradation. These two assignments join a series of recent development works entrusted to MTCC across nine different islands, with a primary emphasis on harbour expansion and coastal protection infrastructure across the archipelago.
