MTCC Wins MVR 912 Million Road Project for 11 Islands
National ·
The road construction work for 11 islands of the Maldives has been awarded to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
In the agreement for this project, State Minister Ismail Hameed signed on behalf of the Housing Ministry, while Deputy Managing Director Mohamed Jamshid signed on behalf of MTCC. The project is being implemented with a total expenditure of 912.15 million rufiyaa and aims to develop the roads of the islands to modern standards.
According to a statement from MTCC, upon completion, residents will benefit from tarred roads developed to modern standards. The company stated this will provide a major solution to the difficulties faced by travelers and pedestrians due to water accumulation and flooding on roads during the rainy season.
The project involves laying tar on roads across several islands. Specifically, work will be done on 7 roads in Ihnamadhu Ra, 3 roads in Feridhu Alif, 4 roads in Bilethfahi Thaa, 6 roads in Rasgethee Ra, 4 roads in Daravandhoo Baa, 4 roads in Maguudoo Noonu, 10 roads in Fiyali Faafu, and 7 roads in Maunghudo Thaa.
The government of President Mohamed Muizzu has handed over a large number of projects to government companies. However, while results are not visible from such projects carried out by the government, citizens have raised complaints that when the second phase of work started in some islands was not fully completed, the third phase of work was handed over and the projects were stalled.
