Muli School Expansion Project Valued at USD 1.2 Million Awarded to MTCC

Politics ·
The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has secured a USD 1.2 million contract to build a new three-storey facility at the Meemu Atoll Education Centre in Muli. The project aims to alleviate severe overcrowding and modernize learning spaces for the region's growing student population. The expansion will deliver 10 modern classrooms, a library, an audio-visual room, and a dedicated health room. The school currently serves 240 students from Muli, the atoll capital, and surrounding islands, with enrolment pressures highlighting the urgent need for more space. State Minister of Education Dr Abdul Latheef Mohamed signed the construction agreement on behalf of the government, while MTCC Deputy Managing Director Mohamed Jamsheed represented the company. Officials state the new building is designed to create a more conducive environment for quality education. This development is part of a broader government initiative to strengthen atoll-level education and ensure equitable access to modern school infrastructure across the Maldives. The project directly addresses the critical space constraints faced by a key educational hub in Meemu Atoll.
