Muraidhoo Health Centre extension to bring laboratory testing to the island
Local News ·
The Haa Alif Muraidhoo Health Centre will be able to carry out laboratory tests once its new extension building is completed, the island council has said.
Council President Amjad Mohamed said the new facility would address space constraints at the existing Level 1 health centre, which currently offers only doctor consultations.
He noted that staff face difficulties due to lack of space and that patients are unable to receive additional treatment on the island.
With the new building, the health centre will gain an inpatient ward, a consultation room and adequate workspace for staff. Most importantly, common laboratory tests will become available to residents without leaving the island, he said.
Amjad Mohamed said work on the new building was expected to be completed next year, after which services would begin. "In line with the President's pledge, laboratory service is expected. The first beam of the new building has been laid," he said.
The current health centre has one doctor and two nurses.
