Musk spends $267 million on US midterm election campaign

World ·
Elon Musk, the American tech billionaire, has given $267 million to groups supporting Republican Party candidates backed by Donald Trump in the upcoming US midterm elections, US media reported. According to the New York Times, Musk has been funding various groups since July, and is the biggest spender for the election to be held on November 3. The largest share of support from Musk, the world's richest person, went to the Senate Leadership Fund. Musk has donated $158 million to the group, which is helping to maintain the narrow Republican majority in the Senate. Musk, the owner of Tesla and SpaceX, spent $290 million in 2024 to bring Trump to the US presidency for a second time. Musk was also given the task of running the Department of Government Efficiency, created to cut spending in Trump's government, but he later left the post following differences of opinion. However, the two have now reconciled. Last week, Trump awarded Musk the National Medal of Science.
