MVR 136.3 Million Allocated for Free Degree Programme in 2027 Budget

The proposed state budget for 2027 has allocated MVR 136.3 million to continue the government’s free degree programme and over MVR 651 million for higher education loan facilities, Finance Minister Hassan Zareer announced while presenting the budget to the People's Majlis. The minister emphasised that providing every child with access to quality education is essential for building a skilled and knowledgeable nation. To achieve this, the budget plans infrastructure development projects in the education sector across various islands, including constructing classrooms and multi-purpose halls for schools, as well as establishing laboratories and resources for higher education. The budget also includes provisions to strengthen resources for children with disabilities to enhance inclusive education within the school infrastructure system.
