MWSC to Waive Overdue Water Bill Penalties for Households and Businesses
Politics ·
The Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has announced a conditional penalty waiver for household and business customers with long-outstanding water bills. The initiative aims to provide financial relief and encourage customers to settle their overdue accounts.
Under the newly announced policy, penalties accumulated on bills up to December 31, 2025, will be waived. To qualify for this relief, customers must settle their total outstanding balance, including all overdue amounts, in full between April 1, 2026, and December 31, 2026.
Recognizing that full immediate payment may be difficult for some, MWSC is offering flexible payment options. Customers can arrange to settle their arrears through monthly installments. For those choosing this path, the penalty waiver will be applied once the agreed-upon payment plan is completed in full.
This measure follows a similar relief program implemented last year, which waived penalties accumulated up to December 1, 2024. By repeating this policy, MWSC seeks to reduce the debt burden on residents and businesses while ensuring the sustainability of water utility services across the capital.
Customers seeking more information or wishing to arrange a payment plan can contact the MWSC Customer Care Centre or call the hotline at 105. For digital inquiries, the company provides assistance via SMS at 1050 or through their official email channel.
