Nasheed Issues Indirect Warning to MDP MPs Over Eagle Hills Petition
Politics ·
Former President and Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Chairperson Mohamed Nasheed has issued an indirect warning to MDP parliament members regarding a petition seeking disclosure of the government's agreement with UAE-based Eagle Hills. The warning was delivered via a message to the MDP National Council WhatsApp group, following the submission of a resolution by Galolhu Dhekunu MP Mi'kail Ahmed Naseem calling for full transparency of the agreement related to the Rasmalé project. In his message, Nasheed reminded members of the party's official stance and cited the expulsion of former MP Ali Azim in May 2023 for speaking against party policy. The move highlights internal divisions within the MDP over the Eagle Hills project, with Nasheed not fully opposing it while former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has voiced opposition. Meanwhile, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has assured that relevant committees will share details of the agreement.
