Education ·
A branch of the National Center for the Holy Quran has been opened in L. Maavah, marking a step in the government's efforts to decentralize Quranic education across the Maldives. The branch was inaugurated by Deputy Minister of Islamic Affairs Al Ustadh Abdul Ghafoor Ahmed in a ceremony attended by officials from the center and the Maavah Council. Following the opening, the National Center team met with local council members, the Women's Development Committee, and students and guardians from the Hifz class to discuss operations. Preparations are underway to open nine additional branches in Noalvarandhufaru, Vaikaradu, Madhavari, Rasmadhoo, Hulhudhufaru, Maafushi, Magoodhoo, Dhandu, and Hithadhoo. Proposals have also been submitted to register branches in 12 more islands: Ihavandhoofa, Marotha, Makurathu, Thulhadhu, Feridhoo, Malhos, Meedhoo, Vilufushi, Kalaidhoo, Gan, Qaddu, and Kendhuhulu. The government, under President Dr. Muhammad Muizzu, has prioritized Quranic education, establishing the National Quran Competition with state-funded prizes, doubling allowances for Hafiz students, holding a graduation ceremony for memorizers, and initiating Waqf projects for sustainable support of Quranic education.
