National Junior Sailing Championship called off this year

Sports ·
The Maldives Sailing Association has decided not to hold the National Junior Sailing Championship this year. The competition had been scheduled to take place in the Male' Vaarunulaa Raalhugandu from the 29th to the 31st of this month. In a statement shared on social media, the association said the decision was made because the period coincides with O-level examinations, resulting in a low number of participants, and due to difficulties in securing a suitable venue. The championship is expected to be held next year, with the aim of organising a highly competitive junior event. The association said a key purpose of such competitions is to create equal opportunities for all children and help develop the skills of junior sailors in the Maldives. The National Junior Sailing Championship features four categories: Under-18, Under-16, Under-14 and Under-18 girls. Last year's inaugural edition saw 16 athletes compete in the Under-18 category, 14 sailors in the Under-16 category, four athletes in the Under-14 category and six athletes in the Under-18 girls' category.
