The foundation for a new 13-storey parking building was laid today in Hulhumalé Phase One, a key step in addressing vehicle registration issues caused by limited parking capacity. Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen stated that this project is part of a larger plan to construct seven parking buildings across Hulhumalé, with three in Phase One and four in Phase Two. Upon completion, the building will offer over 1,100 parking spaces, including more than 600 for cars and over 500 for motorcycles. It will feature modern amenities such as vehicle lifts, electric charging points, sports facilities, and retail outlets, designed to enhance convenience for users. Minister Ameen added that the entire initiative will provide 2,600 spaces for cars and over 1,000 for motorcycles, with designated areas for people with disabilities or special needs. 'Both private and public parking spaces are included,' he said, emphasizing the comprehensive approach. The minister described the system as a modern parking solution aimed at benefiting both drivers and pedestrians, contributing to calmer and more orderly roads in the rapidly developing area. Construction is currently underway at various stages for the other buildings, marking a proactive move towards infrastructure development in the Maldives.
