New 500-Bed Multispecialty Hospital to Begin Construction in Hulhumalé Phase 2

Construction of a state-of-the-art 500-bed multispecialty hospital in Hulhumalé Phase 2 is scheduled to begin by mid-year, marking a significant expansion of the Maldives' healthcare infrastructure. The project is a primary commitment from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s recent presidential address and is now transitioning into its active development phase. During a weekly press conference at the President’s Office, President Muizzu confirmed that both technical and financial arrangements are currently being finalized. The facility is designed to serve as a comprehensive medical hub, offering advanced specialist services to reduce the need for overseas treatment. A central feature of the new hospital will be a sophisticated oncology unit, equipped with a radiation chamber and a dedicated cancer treatment system. The facility will also prioritize maternal and child health, featuring specialized departments for pediatrics and gynecology. These units will provide critical care for pregnant women, family planning services, and specialized treatment for premature babies and rare childhood diseases. To further enhance preventive care, the hospital will offer essential screening for breast and cervical cancers, alongside advanced fertility treatments, including Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) and In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). The project is being developed through international cooperation, with the President noting that construction plans have already been submitted under the Indian Line of Credit (LOC). Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem, CEO of the Male' City Group of Hospitals, stated that proposals are being actively reviewed and expressed confidence that the facility will be completed within the current presidential term. Once operational, this will be the first full-fledged hospital located in Hulhumalé Phase 2. It will supplement the existing clinic operated by Hulhumalé Hospital and a planned general practitioner (GP) clinic, providing a transformative leap in specialized medical access for the area's rapidly growing population.
