The foundation stone has been laid for the Gan Masjid Complex, a significant new religious facility located at Gan International Airport in Addu City. The project aims to provide essential prayer facilities and community services for travelers and residents in the southern region.
According to the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Endowments, the development is being fully funded through a private donation from Mohamed Solih, Chairman of Damas Company Pvt. Ltd. The ceremony marking the start of construction was led by Islamic Affairs Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, who was joined by Mr. Solih and his family.
The planned complex will be a modern two-story structure designed to accommodate up to 800 worshippers. Beyond its primary function as a mosque, the facility will serve as a community hub, featuring a multi-purpose hall and a dedicated library to encourage learning and social gathering.
The event was attended by senior officials from the Islamic Ministry and representatives from the Addu City Council, highlighting the collaboration between government bodies and private philanthropy in developing regional infrastructure.
This project marks another contribution to the religious landscape of Addu City by Mohamed Solih, who previously financed the construction of a mosque in Hulhudhoo on his own land. The Gan Masjid Complex is expected to enhance the spiritual amenities available at one of the Maldives' key strategic airports, catering to the growing number of visitors and staff in the area.
