New Children's Park Opens in Kendhikulhudhoo Following Presidential Pledge

A new children's park has been completed in Kendhikulhudhoo, Noonu Atoll, providing a dedicated recreational space for families and young residents. The project fulfills a pledge made by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu during his visit to the island in July last year. Executed by the Road Development Corporation (RDC) under the government's Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP), the development is located in the Kulhudhoo district. The project, which cost USD 27,166.88, involved comprehensive landscaping, hardscaping, and the installation of modern playground equipment. According to the RDC, the park is designed to offer a safe and enjoyable environment for children to spend their leisure time, fostering community engagement and improving the quality of life for the island's residents. The formal agreement for the construction was signed on March 29, 2024. Local residents have welcomed the completion of the park, noting that such facilities are vital for enhancing the social fabric and community life of the island. The project represents a tangible step in upgrading the public infrastructure of the settlement. Kendhikulhudhoo has a unique history, having once existed as two separate islands, Kulhudhoo and Kendhikolhu. The two settlements were officially merged into a single island under the administration of former President Mohamed Nasheed, as they both occupy the same landmass. This new park serves as a modern addition to the integrated community's shared public spaces.
