New Dedicated Sector for Religious Products Introduced at National Innovation Expo
World ·
The Business Centre Corporation (BCC) has introduced a dedicated sector for religious products at this year’s National Innovation and Enterprise Expo, recognizing the growing demand and diversity of these offerings. Previously, religious products were grouped within other sectors, but a surge in interest has prompted the creation of a standalone category to better showcase these contributions.
Speaking on PSM News’ 'Raajje Miadhu' programme, BCC Assistant Director of Strategic Development Areesa Moosa explained that the new sector is divided into three distinct categories. These include audio-visual content designed to promote religious awareness, educational materials specifically created for children, and general products that provide religious information.
The 2026 expo offers Maldivian producers a platform to display their services across 73 categories spanning 16 different sectors. Beyond religious products, the BCC is anticipating strong participation in the creative economy, including IT, animation, and drawing, following significant interest in the creative arts and design sector during last year's event.
This initiative aligns with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's designation of 2026 as the Year of National Innovation. By expanding the categories, the BCC aims to provide a more inclusive and professional environment for Maldivian entrepreneurs to market their skills and scale their businesses.
Registration is currently open via the expo.mv portal, with the deadline for submissions set for Wednesday, 31 August. The BCC has already received over 350 applications from eager participants. The corporation has urged remaining interested parties to register promptly to secure their place in the showcase.
The National Innovation and Enterprise Expo is scheduled to take place from 23 to 31 October, serving as a cornerstone event for the Maldives' burgeoning innovation landscape.
