New Male' Vocational High School Building Construction to Begin in August

World ·
The Maldivian government will hand over the construction of a new building for the Male' Vocational High School to contractors this August, Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu announced. The project is a key component of the state's strategy to expand vocational training and enhance work-based apprenticeship opportunities for students. Speaking at the fourth session of the High Achievers' Award 2025 ceremony, Dr. Shafeeu highlighted a significant surge in higher secondary education enrollment. Data reveals that the proportion of Grade 10 students progressing to higher secondary levels rose from 34% in 2023 to 48% this year. The Minister attributed this growth to targeted education policy reforms and awareness campaigns implemented over the last two years. He described the increase as a major milestone for the nation, signaling a shift in how young people and families perceive the value of continuing education beyond the basic secondary level. Established last year, the Male' Vocational High School has already begun enrolling students. The upcoming facility aims to provide the necessary infrastructure to support this growing student body and integrate theoretical learning with practical, industry-specific skills. Dr. Shafeeu emphasized that retaining more young people within the education system is a critical investment in the country's future. He noted that every student who completes higher secondary education strengthens the Maldives' human capital, empowering the youth and contributing to a more productive and skilled workforce for the national economy.
