New MIFCO CEO Outlines Ambitious Reforms to Modernize State Fisheries Operations

The Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited (MIFCO) is embarking on a comprehensive organizational transformation under its new Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Mohamed Anas. The state-owned enterprise aims to modernize its management systems and operational frameworks to better navigate contemporary business challenges.
During a recent inspection of the Kooddoo Fisheries Complex, CEO Anas emphasized that as a 100 percent government-owned entity, MIFCO requires substantial reforms to remain competitive. A primary focus of the new leadership will be enhancing the company's financial capacity and improving employee salaries through the diversification of business operations.
Moving beyond the traditional model of fish exports, Anas stated that the company is now prioritizing the exploration of new international markets. The management is specifically looking for ways to add greater value to its products, creating additional income streams that can be reinvested into the company's growth and workforce.
To ensure the success of these initiatives, the CEO has called for a culture of collaboration and strong work ethics among staff. He assured employees that their concerns are being heard and will be addressed as part of the broader restructuring process.
Since taking office, Anas has conducted a series of nationwide visits to MIFCO centers to assess operational conditions and engage directly with the workforce. His visit to the Kooddoo Fisheries Complex has already resulted in immediate directives for infrastructure improvements.
Parallel to these internal reforms, external infrastructure is also progressing. The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has reported that the Kooddoo fisheries harbour developmental project is 56 percent complete, with a target completion date set for April next year.
