A new Quran teaching centre has been officially opened in Maafaru, Laamu Atoll, as part of a government project to establish such centres across inhabited islands of the Maldives. The centre, run by the National Center for Holy Quran, was inaugurated by Deputy Minister of Islamic Affairs and Endowments, Al-Ustadh Abdul Ghafoor Ahmed, in a ceremony attended by senior officials from the centre and the Maafaru Council. The delegation officially launched Quran classes at the centre and met with enrolled students and their guardians. Consultations were also held with Maafaru Council representatives and the Women’s Development Committee (WDC) on strengthening Quran education programmes, administrative maintenance, and sustainable operations. The Ministry of Islamic Affairs said the opening marks an advancement in decentralising Quran education and expanding opportunities for students across the Maldives to learn, recite, and memorise the Holy Quran.
