Salahuddin School has officially opened a state-of-the-art library named "Reading Retreat," designed to foster a culture of literacy and interactive learning among its students. Developed by Advocating the Rights of Children (ARC) with financial backing from Alia Investments, the facility is now available to serve a student body of more than 2,700 children.
Alaau Ali, Managing Director of Alia Investments, inaugurated the facility during a ceremony attended by State Minister of Education Dr. Abdul Latheef Mohamed and Salahuddin School Principal Nasiha Idrees. During his address, Ali described the project as the company’s most significant investment in a school to date, emphasizing its potential to fundamentally enhance the learning experience for the youth.
State Minister Dr. Abdul Latheef underscored the critical role of reading in academic success, urging students to utilize the new resources fully. Principal Nasiha expressed gratitude to both ARC and Alia Investments, noting that the facility fills a vital need for the school's large population.
The Reading Retreat is more than a traditional library; it is a specialized educational hub capable of accommodating 150 students simultaneously. The design incorporates several dedicated zones to support different learning styles. These include the "Dialogue Den" for collaborative group discussions, quiet individual reading nooks, and a soundproof interactive classroom for focused activity. Additionally, the facility features a "Staff Studio," providing teachers with a dedicated space for lesson planning and administrative duties.
According to ARC, the primary objective of the project is to cultivate critical thinking, creativity, and strong communication skills through improved reading habits. The association indicated that this project serves as a blueprint for future initiatives, with the hope of establishing similar high-quality learning environments in schools across the Maldives.
