New Sections of Boduthakurufaanu Magu Open Following Major Road Expansion

Five newly developed segments of Boduthakurufaanu Magu in Malé have officially opened to the public, marking the completion of the first phase of a comprehensive road development project. As part of this initial stage, a 700-meter stretch extending from the Henveiru Ferry Terminal to the Izzuddin Jetty has been fully asphalted. The project, which began approximately three months ago, involved dredging portions of the lagoon to widen the road and increase capacity for the capital's growing traffic needs. The project's contractor, Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), confirmed that while the road is now accessible, some minor finishing works are still underway. These remaining tasks include the installation of stair railings along the seawall. To ensure public safety, MTCC has placed red kerbstones near these areas to clearly mark active work zones. Beyond infrastructure, the project emphasizes urban greenery. According to MTCC, more than 3,100 trees have been planted along the corridor between the Henveiru Ferry Terminal and the Malé North Harbour, aiming to enhance the aesthetic and environmental quality of the waterfront road. To maintain the flow of traffic on the expanded route, authorities have implemented a strict no-parking policy along the newly developed sections. However, to accommodate commuters, a dedicated motorcycle parking area with a capacity for 500 vehicles has been established in front of the Bank of Maldives (BML) head office. Officials have warned that strict enforcement will be in place, and action will be taken against any vehicle owners who park outside the designated zones. This measure is intended to prevent congestion and ensure that the benefits of the road expansion are fully realized by the public.
