No-confidence motion against Economic Minister Mohamed Saaid fails in People's Majlis

Politics ·
The People’s Majlis, with a PNC majority, voted against a no-confidence motion filed against Economic Minister Mohamed Saaid on Wednesday. The motion, brought by the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), alleged that Minister Saaid violated the Constitution in fulfilling his responsibilities and neglected his duty to be accountable to the Majlis. The MDP raised six issues, including the continuous rise of the dollar rate in the black market causing excessive increases in goods prices, failure to maintain state assets and funds with proper security, and obstacles to accountability. In the vote, 10 members supported the motion while 54 opposed it. Minister Saaid defended himself in the Majlis, stating that the country's economic situation is improving.
