No-confidence motion against Minister Mohamed Saeed placed on Majlis agenda

Politics ·
The People’s Majlis has scheduled a no-confidence motion against Minister of Economic Development, Transport and Trade Mohamed Saeed for debate in tomorrow’s session. The motion was submitted by 13 opposition members from the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). The resolution, filed on August 1, accuses Saeed of neglecting his constitutional duties, failing to be accountable to the Majlis, and carrying out actions prohibited for ministers. It seeks to determine that Saeed has lost confidence and to remove him from office. The Majlis General Committee has allocated one hour for debate on the resolution, with an additional hour for the minister to respond to remarks made by members during the chamber debate. The procedure for allocating speaking time is based on the number of members representing political parties in the Majlis, with time also granted to independent members.
