No Measles Cases Reported in Male' Region in Past Week, HPA Data Shows

Health ·
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has reported that no cases of measles were recorded in the Greater Male' region during the past week. This comes after a single case was reported in the previous week. According to the HPA data released on Tuesday, a total of 287 measles cases have been reported in the Maldives so far this year. During the past week, an additional 186 people received the MR (measles-rubella) vaccine, bringing the total number of vaccinations this year to 16,689. The Maldives had previously been declared measles-free, but an outbreak began in May of this year. While case numbers rose sharply initially, the rate of new infections has now declined significantly. The HPA advises anyone who has not completed the two-dose MR vaccine schedule to visit a designated vaccination centre to get fully vaccinated. Health experts warn that symptoms such as fever and red spots should prompt immediate medical attention to help prevent further spread of the disease.
