The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has opened applications for land plots in the Rasmale' development under the Binveriyaa scheme. Eligible Maldivians have until April 30 to apply for the 1,250-square-foot plots. The allocation targets two main groups: individuals who previously acquired land through a joint application and those earlier deemed ineligible for Binveriyaa due to owning a flat under another government housing initiative. Applicants must submit forms electronically through the portal boahiyaavahikan.housing.gov.mv. Required supporting documents, listed in the Government Gazette, include a marriage certificate (if applicable), registry documents for any existing land or flat ownership, a declaration of rights, and official proof of long-term residency in Malé. This proof can be indicative residency records confirming residence since birth or from the date of initial settlement in the capital. The Rasmale' project is a major government initiative to address national housing shortages. Large-scale land reclamation is ongoing, with dredging operations active across 11 sites. The project aims to reclaim 1,009 hectares of land, with nearly 500 hectares already dredged. Following the project's official start on December 18, 2023, the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) was contracted in December last year to accelerate development, marking significant progress toward establishing the new urban zone.
