One Week After Funadhoo Fire: 11 Still in Temporary Shelter
Local News ·
A week after a major fire broke out at a petrol shed in Funadhoo, 11 people remain in temporary accommodation, according to the Funadhoo Council and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). The fire, which started around 07:00 hours last Tuesday and was extinguished by 12:00 hours, affected four houses and five workshops, causing a power outage that forced the relocation of 11 residents from one damaged house. Initially planned for five days, the temporary shelter has now extended beyond a week. Funadhoo Council President Mohamed Adil confirmed that the displaced individuals are still living in rented temporary shelter. The NDMA stated that the duration of shelter provision will be determined once an assessment report on the damaged house is received. The Funadhoo Council is conducting the damage assessment. Police have sent a special team to investigate the fire's cause, but no details have been disclosed. Twenty people sustained injuries in the incident, including a firefighter and a hospital employee, and have received treatment.
