Operation Riveli: Thousands Questioned Ahead of New Year in Maldives

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has reported significant progress in Operation Riveli, designed to maintain security ahead of the New Year celebrations. Between December 24 and 28, a total of 3,986 individuals were stopped and questioned, resulting in 29 arrests. In Male’ City, 1,693 people were questioned, leading to 26 arrests, while 2,293 individuals were stopped in Hulhumale’, with three arrests made. Among those questioned, 95 were foreigners in Male’, and 46 in Hulhumale’. Additionally, police searched 6,491 locations in Male’ and inspected 1,954 vehicles, issuing 397 fines. In Hulhumale’, 1,879 vehicles were checked, with 28 fines issued. The operation aims to curb theft, robbery, alcohol and drug-related offenses, reckless driving, and violations of social norms during the festive season.
