Opposition MDP opposing Rasmalé project because it cannot see a path to 2028 presidency: Falah
Politics ·
The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is opposing the $20 billion Rasmalé project because the party cannot see any prospect for the 2028 presidential election, according to the Parliamentary Group Leader of the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) and Inguraidhoo constituency MP, Ibrahim Falah. Speaking at today's Parliament session, Falah stated that the Maldivian public is fully aware of the benefits the project brings to the state and its citizens. He asserted that the Rasmalé project is a mega-project of a scale never before undertaken by any government in the Maldives. Falah said the MDP is unhappy with the project because it does not want to see such major progress in the country under the leadership of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. He further claimed that the MDP has prohibited its members in Parliament from speaking against the project, and that any member who speaks openly against it will face party action. Falah argued that the MDP's opposition is driven by their inability to see a clear path to victory in the 2028 presidential election, and that they are trying to create difficulties for the country out of desperation.
