Over 200 Media Leaders Gather in Maldives for Asia Media Summit

The Maldives is currently hosting one of the most significant gatherings of broadcasting professionals in the region as delegates arrive for the Asia Media Summit. The event, which runs from May 11 to 14, brings together more than 200 high-level broadcasting managers and leaders from across the Asia-Pacific region. Among the distinguished guests arriving at Velana International Airport were Sudruetai Lertkasem, President of the General Conference of the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) and Director-General of Thailand’s Government Public Relations Department. Also in attendance are Gaurav Dwivedi, CEO of India's Prasar Bharati, and Indra Mani Pandey, Secretary General of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC). The delegates were received by Public Service Media (PSM) Managing Director Ahmed Shakeeb and AIBD CEO Philomena Gnanapragasam. Under the theme "Maldives 2.0 from Tradition to Tech," the summit focuses on the region's rapid evolution in broadcasting technology and content delivery. Participants will convene at the Villa Nautica Resort to address critical industry challenges, discuss responsible broadcasting practices, and establish development goals to shape the future of regional media. The official proceedings begin with an opening ceremony on May 12, followed by plenary sessions on May 13. To maximize the event's impact, pre-summit workshops are already underway at the Manhattan Business Hotel, Hulhule' Island Hotel, and Villa Nautica, offering specialized training and collaborative networking for attendees. Organized by PSM in collaboration with the AIBD, the summit serves as a vital diplomatic and professional platform. It allows broadcasting entities to strengthen bilateral relations and share best practices for navigating an increasingly digital media environment. The event will conclude on May 14 with a coral planting activity at Kudagiri Picnic Island, blending the summit's technological focus with a commitment to environmental sustainability.
