Delegates from across the Asia-Pacific region have begun arriving in the Maldives for the Asia Media Summit, a premier gathering of broadcasting and media officials. The event, hosted at the Villa Nautica Resort from May 11 to 14, is organized by the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) in collaboration with Public Service Media (PSM).
Under the theme “Maldives 2.0: From Tradition to Tech,” the summit brings together more than 200 senior officials to explore the intersection of traditional broadcasting and emerging technologies. The gathering aims to strengthen regional cooperation, establish future-focused development goals, and reinforce bilateral relations within the media sector.
The event kicks off on May 11 with five specialized pre-summit workshops. These sessions will address the critical role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in modern journalism, focusing on AI-driven storytelling, news production efficiency, and the vital challenge of maintaining media credibility in the age of automation. Additionally, the workshops will examine the media's responsibility in communicating climate change adaptation strategies.
Following the workshops, the official opening ceremony will take place on May 12. The schedule includes a series of plenary sessions on May 13, where leaders will discuss responsible broadcasting and the evolving landscape of the digital media era.
Closing the summit on May 14, delegates will participate in a special coral planting event in Kudagiri. This activity underscores the summit's commitment to environmental stewardship and highlights the Maldives' leadership in marine conservation, blending the event's technological focus with a tangible commitment to the natural world.
